The earthquake that struck Chile in February was widely felt around Southern Chile, and had particularly large impact on the Northern part of what we consider Southern Chile. The Bio Bio river South for the most part is what we use to define “Southern Chile”. Many news organizations and governments such as the U.S. Embassy have issued statements and reports that we believe give an inaccurate and at times completely false picture of what areas were really effected by the earthquake and tsunami that hit Chile. In short, we have no reports of sigificant damage anywhere south of Temuco. Even Temuco only suffered relatively minor damage to old buildings in the center of town where few people live. We would like to counter these reports with the facts we have gathered personally on the ground and from our contacts across Chile.
