Chiloé ( Chiloe ) Island by All Southern Chile
The Island of Chiloé is somehow magically detached from the rest of Chile, both literally and figuratively. It has its own cultural flavor that has developed in such isolation. Getting to Chiloé still involves a 45 min ferry ride from the mainland, although there are plans to build a new bridge to connect them directly. Once built, the bridge is sure to open up this natural wonder to a more regularly flowing tourist crowd. For now, it is an isolated cultural jewel. One of its more famous cultural phenomena is the wooden churches.

The Island is mostly dotted with small fishing villages along the coastline, with a few larger cities such as Ancud and Castro (more like large towns). Overall, the people tend to be far more trusting and friendly, with time to get to know you, even if you are just passing through for the day.

Just a few kilometers off the Chilean coast of South America is a rather large Island called Chiloe. The Island of Chiloe could easily be mistaken for Ireland with rainbows, myths of strange creatures, sea fairing tradition, potatoes, and an almost revolutionary view of the Island as an independent political entity. We want to introduce you to the communities of Quellon and an Ancud, along with some of the local flavors in terms of both food and politics.

For big budgets, we would recommend locations that use the word “hotel” in there advertising. This would include in Chiloé some Quality local Hotels. Expect the word “hotel” to be associated with better quality. In the middle to budget level, we would recommend “Pensions”, “Hostels”, and “Hospedaje”. In terms of Hostels, do not expect to find Hostels in the sense of European backpacker sorts of places with dormitory and bars. None the less, they often are clean, respectable, friendly, and a very good deal in All Southern Chile. Sometimes, the quality will exceed that of many places marked “Hotel”. Chiloe

Chiloé
Chiloé has a great deal of very special plates.
The people in this island have been producing all ingredients since the beginning of their settlement here. For that reason, they have proudly preserved not only the traditional recipes, but also the way of cooking those traditional plates and the ingredients.
It has to be said that in the Island, eating is really important. In one way or another all elements of their culture have been directly related with food. They really love to eat and a lot (for example, the traditional Chilote lunch includes 4 main dishes).
