Colectivos

One of the more uniquely Chilean forms of transportation is the colectivos. Essentially a systems of taxi drivers that drive a set routes all day car pooling riders. They are one of the better deals, especially in more rural areas where taxis are limited and expensive relative to the price of a taxi in Santiago. Jumping in a colectivo can also be a great source of information, as the riders and drivers pool their knowledge of the area to answer whatever question you might have.

National Bus System 

Bus stations are clean and well run. The national bus system is simply one of the best in Latin America. Depending on your budget, the service on the buses can run from a simple seat to treatment like you were a first class passenger on the Concord. Overnight buses are a great deal for moving from region to region.
