Regardless if you are planning to buy real estate in Frutillar for the long-term or just visit Frutillar, you will want to mark on your calendar the annual music festivial in Frutillar. The music weeks festivial in Frutillar is better known as the “Semanas Musicales” in Spanish, and runs from January 27th through February 6th. This year will be the the first time the music festival has been held in the newly completed Theater del Lago (Teatro del Lago).

After nearly 12 years of work, the Theater del Lago (Teatro del Lago) in Frutillar celebrated its grand opening on November 6th with a music spectacular of Classical, Jazz, Opera, and Cuban music. The audience was treated to a live sound test of the full range spectacular piece of German designed architecture could produce. At times all the invited artist ( full orchestra included ) joined in to what could only be describes as the ultimate jam session in the newest and one of the most modern concert halls in Latin America.

One thing that many small towns lack in Chile is a true sustained and organic community wide commitment to cultural enrichment. Frutillar is one of the great exceptions to this in Southern Chile, with a long community tradition of music and arts dating back to the founding of the town by German settlers. The town is pervaded by sculptures dedicated to music, music schools, and musical symbols pop up on all the tourist trinkets. Now with the nearly completed Teatro del Lago concert hall and cultural center, Frutillar will have the distinction of having one of the most advanced music venues found anywhere in Chile. Not bad for a small town of just a few thousand residents. It is set to turn the little town of Frutillar in to the Music capital of Chile.

Ayacara Hotel in Frutillar, Chile is one of the real wonders among Bed and Breakfast Style hotels in Southern Chile. Many locations in Southern Chile use the words “hotel” or “bed & breakfast” in their descriptions, but very few deliver on it in any internationally recognizable way. For now, let's just call the Ayacara a boutique hotel.

We spent three great days at the Ayacara on the shores of lake Llanquihue in Frutillar. The spectacular view from the front door of the hotel includes a snow capped volcano reflecting in the lake. That view alone is worth the price of admission.  You however get much more for your money.
