All Southern Chile and Patagonia (
www.allsouthernchile.com ) wants to introduce the world to the
wonders of Southern Chile as a place to visit, live, and work. Chile
is one of the last places on Earth with a clean environment, friendly
people, safe cities and towns, that boast one of the fastest growing
and most stable economies in the World. www.allsouthernchile.com is
dedicated to covering all aspects of life in Southern Chile and
Patagonia.
Why tourism alone is not the answer.
Tourism is good for local economies;
however, we believe it to be a quick fix and rather transient form of
economic development. We do strive to promote tourism at every turn
on All Southern Chile, but we wish to focus more on helping to
promote Chile as a long-term foreign investment destination. This
mainly because in too many communities in Southern Chile massive
amounts of resources and time have been have been devoted to tourism
development at the urging of the Chilean national government, without
the follow through support to ever make it sustainable. However
admirable this may be, the reality is that many of the communities
simply lack sufficient local tourist attractions, international
exposure, or the millions of dollars needed for a tourism industry to
really amount to anything more than a very limited seasonal flow of
the occasional foreign or Chilean tourist passing through for the day
on their way to some more famous destinations. For many of the
communities in Southern Chile, tourism is not an option.
Instead, it is our philosophy and
strategy of economic development to encourage foreigners to make a
long-term investment in the communities of Southern Chile and
Patagonia for real sustainable development. This ranges from the
expat or foreigner that wishes to settle down, buy land, and retire,
to the foreign investor that wishes to purchase agricultural
property, start a tourism business, or just purchase some long-term
investment property to protect a piece of the environmental paradise
that is Southern Chile. Frequently the sorts of expats and foreigners
that invest in Chile have no intentions of ever living or even
visiting Chile, but still make long-term contributions to the
economies of these communities with very minimal impact.
It is our belief that such investments
in Chile leads to a steady flows of foreign currency directly in to
the pockets of the people and the communities of southern Chile as
foreigners purchase property, live in communities, hire local people
to maintain their property, build a house, or create a business that
employs local workers.
Why '...and Patagonia'?
Across the site, we have implemented an
editorial policy to make a clear distinction between Southern Chile
in general and the "Patagonia". Although there is a Patagonia,
Argentina and the term "Patagonia" is often applied rather
loosely in Southern Chile, the Patagonia region we refer to will
always be the the region south of Pumalin Park, and excluding the
Island of Chiloe.
We do this to recognize the unique
culture and people that exist in the Patagonia of Chile along with
the geographical isolation that has fostered that culture in Chile.
The Patagonia of southern Chile is a rugged, unspoiled, and wonderful
land that settlers are still trying to carve out a place to live in
because this section of Chile has no direct roads to the rest of
Chile. Access is by Plane, Boat, or overland through Argentina.
Similarly, the Island of Chiloe by a
fluke of geography has its own unique cultural identity that is
clearly distinguishable from other parts of Southern Chile. They are
all parts of Southern Chile, we simply wish to draw attention to what
is special about these regions and their people.
Across Southern Chile and Patagonia:
Our coverage of Southern Chile starts
in the Bio-Bio or region VIII of Southern Chile and ends in Tierra
