How do I know the property lines in Chile are correct? |
|
We recommend to all of our clients that
want to buy property outside of a major city hire a surveyor to
independently resurvey the property as standard practice. Many
sellers, even the most honest ones, simply do not have a clear
concept of just how large their property is in reality. We especially
recommend this when the property has an older title, or the property
has a water source such as a river or lake that may have moved over
time, or the property was last surveyed before GPS technology was
widely available.
That said, many of our clients that
have had the properties resurveyed before purchase have been
pleasantly surprised to discover that the property is larger than was
originally believed. Sometimes the properties have been significantly
larger.
This is just a good overall practice to insure that you are
really buying what you believe you are buying, and it can help you
better visualize the property. Surveyors in Chile are relatively
inexpensive (typically a few hundred dollars), and can place property
lines on a satellite map for you, along with checking the property
against government databases.
