The city of Osorno is one of the oldest in Chile. Earliest recorded history have it inhabited around 1533. Osorno has been abandoned and rebuilt several times in its history, but now has population of around 150,000 people. It has a strong German influence from settlers brought in by the Chilean government to help populate it in the last century. Osorno has developed a large dairy and cattle industry that is biggest in Chile. Much of the dairy products of Chile come from the area around Osorno.
