Recently refitted this year, Puerto Cisnes now has a small but well equipped hospital that will be able to handle any minor situation that may arise. This gives the local inhabitants of the surrounding communities (Alto Rio Cisnes, Tapera, Villa Amengual and others) a better quality of life, knowing that their health problems will be solved efficiently. The services offered by this hospital among others are: Emergency treatments, medical center, blood bank, laboratories and others. For more complex situations (major surgeries) this hospital is considered inadequate, so the patient must be transferred to a much larger establishment in Coyhaique, the capital of the XI Region at 140 kms farther south.
