Puerto Montt southern Chile travel guide by All Southern Chile
| Puerto Montt is situated at the northern end of vast
interlocking series of channels, islands, bays, and archipelagos that
stretch South along Chile's coast. Puerto Montt is also the capital of Chile's Lakes Region (La
Región de Los Lagos). Much of the heavy export for the Southern Region
of Chile moves through this Port, and thus Puerto Montt's importance to Chile's
economy is growing rapidly. |

Downtown Puerto Montt has transformed dramatically in the last few
years, from a rather rusty industrial looking port town, to more of a
regional metropolis with many shops, malls, restaurants, and hotels
like you would find in the capital Santiago. Puerto Montt is also one of the Central transit points for reaching places like Puerto Varras, Futaleufú , and the island of Chiloé, and many other areas in the region.

large number of four star hotels and quality Hostels to choose from.
For those on a budget, we would recommend “Pensions”, “Hostels”, and
“Hospedaje”. As a major port and industrial hub of southern Chile, Puerto Montt has plenty of Budget places to stay for the backpacker. |

Puerto Montt is one of the best places in Southern Chile for seafood, with a thriving fishing industry that calls Puerto Montt Home. Many of the other typical Southern Chilean foods can also be found in Puerto Montt as one of the largest cities in Chile. All international flavors can be found among the restaurants of Puerto Montt.

Internet almost non-stop. It is the recent proliferation of Wi-fi
access points in southern Chile that makes these two essential needs
increasingly easier for All Southern Chile to happen. However, if
you were to count the number of cool little stickers on the doors in
Southern Chile, you might be misled into thinking Southern Chile was
one big wireless hot spot ( inalambrico ). We decided to put a
few to the test, and help navigate the wireless forest sprouting up
in Southern Chile to find free and, more importantly, working

The Bus station at Puerto Montt is a major transit point between nothern and southern Chile. To get to almost any other destination in Southern Chile you will have to pass through the bus station at Puerto Montt. From Puerto Montt you get a bus to Puerto Varras, Futaleufú , and the island of Chiloé, and many other places in the regions. Puerto Montt is also the place to catch trains to destinations North, and the boats to all points south in Chile.
