The Perfect Place for a Summer Home…In Winter

Now I’m sure you’ve never even heard of a place called Boca Budi, but it’s somewhere you’ll definitely want to be, especially when the cold winds blow across North America and Europe. At the same time you’re freezing in your town, it’s a balmy 70-85 degrees complete with fresh, sweet smelling ocean breezes blowing in. All this in a small village reminiscent of that old time California or North Carolina seaside summer town where you could get away from it all for a month or two.

Overlooking black sand beaches with pounding surf on one side and a lagoon on the other, the village is at the end of the main road so peace and tranquility are the order of the day. There are only about 30 other summer homes in Boca Budi, along with two restaurants, a hotel, some cabins and a quiet road without traffic, so it’s almost like jumping back into the 1950’s. The main town, complete with other restaurants and grocery stores, is only about 2 miles away on that quiet road so you can actually walk there if you’d like.

Although this is a great place to simply relax, there are many activities available. From the tennis court to walking along sandy beaches, everything from fishing to parasailing to hiking to boating is nearby. Still, the true attraction of Boca Budi is the peace and quiet. Here you can relax in your summer house and listen to the surf. If you don’t want to cook some nights the local restaurants have some of the best and freshest seafood dishes available. Local specialties abound as well.

Just want to have a cocktail and call it a night? Walk down a block or two to one of the local places and enjoy refreshing drinks and a fabulous view at the same time. Then just walk on back to your place. It’s that old time summer home kind of place that’s so hard to find these days. A place you go when you want, leave a car for driving around and close up when you want to leave. That’s Boca Budi.

You can check it out by staying at the Boca Budi Hotel. The hotel is high on a bluff above the beaches with incredible views from most of the rooms. For only about $40US per night you can enjoy this beautiful and relaxing place for yourself. The restaurant is steps away and has giant picture windows taking in the view of the entire coastline. Plan on staying awhile and spending some time looking for a place to buy or a lot to build on because this place will grab you and won’t let you go.

OK, so where is this heaven on earth? Like anything wonderful and unique it does take a bit of travel to get there. Boca Budi is in southern Chile on the western side of South America. Since it’s in southern Chile, the weather is just about the opposite from that of North America and Europe giving you summer there when it’s winter up north. Easy to get to, the town is about an hour outside of Temuco, the third largest city in Chile, which itself is easy to get to from Santiago or Buenos Aires.

Best of all, once you get here, the world disappears for as long as you want it to. That’s the magic of Boca Budi.
