Temuco Chile: Hotel Bayern Review

The Hotel Bayern is a classic full service three star hotel with everything you might need regardless of your reason for visiting the South of Chile. The Bayern has been in the family for two generations, offering comfort and service at a reasonable price to tourist and businessmen in Chile.

The owners have also recently ventured into opening a luxury space dome type eco-camp in the Araucanía Andina Area of Southern Chile. The hotel Bayern acts as a relaxing reception point for tourist on their way to the more remote eco-camp in the mountains a few hours outside of Temuco. Hotel Bayern is a modern hotel, with balanced decoration, flower patterns, and many large rooms and well lit spaces throughout; however, there is occasionally an exposed rustic flair that reminds you of the roots of this region of Chile. It is as if they are strategically placed to call attention to the traditions of the hotel and the region, and stop modernity from overwhelming your experience of Temuco and Southern Chile. It is ultimately a nice balance.

Rooms at the Bayern are all large and spacious. The suites are some of the largest we have seen in Southern Chile for the price. Beyond the standard over sized bedroom with a king size mattress tables and chairs, as is common in the better hotels in Southern Chile, the rooms have second living room attached with a couch and chairs and its own TV. All rooms come with a mini bar. Bathrooms are spacious, professionally maintained, and are laid out well.

The double rooms at the Hotel Bayern, although not as spacious as the better rooms, are still large and comfortable. You do not get the impression that the beds where artificially crammed into the room to make extra money, but that the room was actually built to have that many beds. There really is space to walk around the beds. This is also true of the rooms with three beds. In fact, we were rather surprised to find that the triple room we checked seemed to actually be one of the more attractive rooms at the Bayern, with exposed wood beams and moldings that gave a rustic but modern feel to a room built in more of dormitory style.

The downstairs cafe is where you go to relax and have dinner. There is a full bar and restaurant, along with a big screen TV to catch the games and news. The bar carries some of the best wines in Chile, along with the basics you would expect anywhere in Chile such as Pisco Sours. There is also a wide variety of the domestic and imported beers and liquors.

The Bayern also has very extensive convention and meeting facilities. The convention room includes projectors and other lecture aids. There is also inhouse catering of meals, snacks, coffee, and other refreshments for guest avaible

When it comes to providing Internet service the hotel Bayern goes far beyond most hotels we have seen. It is common among even the better hotels in Southern Chile for them to provide just one or two old computers, then place them in a phone booth like structure for you to use. The Bayern provides a comfortable work space with several new computers, a large desk for you to get some real work done, and wireless Internet throughout the hotel. Wireless Internet is most importantly available in the downstairs cafe with a bar and TV so you can really get some work done.
