Frutillar Small German town located in the 10th region lakes district of Chile, on Lake llanquihue near Puerto Varas. This also happens to be the home of allsouthernchile.com
TEMUCO Capital of the 9th region of Southern Chile, and one of the fastest growing cities in Chile. Temuco sits almost exactly 8 hours drive from the Capital of Chile Santiago, and Puerto Montt the end of the major highway system to the South.
Futaleufu ( Futaleufú ) One of the most remote and popular tourist destinations in the Patagonia of Southern Chile. Famous for the fly fishing and one of the top 5 whitewater rafting destinations in South America and the World.
Carretera Austral Patagonia This is the Highway that cuts across the Patagonia of Chile Linking small communities. It is really just a dirt road, but it an important life line to the people of the Patagonia.
Seven Lakes ( Siete Lagos ) This area is just south of Pucon with vistas of the Several Volcanoes and just a few hours from the city of Osorno and Temuco. It includes the Huilo Huilo Nature reserve.
Araucanía Andina One of the hidden wonders of the 9th region of Chile, located just north of the more famous Pucon. This region includes 5 major towns and several national parks including the home of the exotic Araucaria Tree.
Lake Budi This is the only salt water lake in South America, and is home to hundreds of species of rare animal and plant life. The Native Mapuche indians call Lake Budi home, and are pushing forward with ambitious ethnic tourism projects to protect both their culture and the lake.
Villarrica Is located just across Lake Villarrica from Pucon Chile. This town is slightly larger than Pucon, and sports one of the best views of the Villarrica Volcano and Pucon.
Pucón Is one of the traditional summer vacation spots for young Chileans. Pucon sites at the foot of the Villarrica volcano which has a ski resort and is dotted with hot spring thermal baths on all sides.
Lican Ray is a small resort town that also comes alive in the summer with Chilean vacationers. It sits at the gateway to the Seven lakes district, and is only about 30 mins by bus from Villarrica.
Puerto Varas Situated on a lake in the 10th region about 20 mins from Puerto Montt, this is one of the bigger tourist destinations in southern Chile. Numerous developments are currently underway in and around Puerto Varas including several 4 and 5 star hotels.
Ensenada This small town is located about 15 mins from Puerto Varas and is a traditional summer tourism destination for Chileans from Santiago in the Summer. It sits just mins from some of more famous national parks in southern Chile and on the road to Argentina.
Puerto Montt capital of the 10th lakes region of Southern Chile, and last large city with an international airport before reaching the Chilean Patagonia and Chiloe. If you plan to travel to the Patagonia or Chiloe via Chile, you will most likely pass through this town. It is also one of the best places to find great seafood fresh from the ocean.
Chiloé Mysterious and romantic does not begin to cover all that is magical about Chiloé. This is place much like Ireland where magical creatures are alive and rainbows will constantly interfere with your camera. Chiloé has a feel completely different from the rest of Chile, and the people will be quick to remind you that they are different.
Lota A small town home to one of the last coal mines in Chile that stretches for miles under the sea floor. Now a tourist attraction that the local community is working hard to build in to as much of a money maker as the coal that came out of it.
Valdivia Capital of Chile's newest region, but with a long history dating back to before the Spanish. This is where generations fought the Mapuche with little successes, German immigrants settled, and is now growing in to major University town and agricultural center.
Chaiten (Chaitén) Capital of the Palena Province of Chile's 10th region and gateway to the Northern Chilean Patagonia.
Huilo Huilo This is simply a private national park so large and spectacular that it includes several mountains, 5 star hotels, lakes, and rivers.
Punta Arenas For all intensive purposes this is the end of the World, or at Least South America. It is the last major populated cities in Chile and gateway to natural wonders such as Torres del Paine and other parks that we have only now started to document.
Osorno One of the largest populations of Germans settled here and it is an important agricultural city in Chile. Some of the best food in All Southern Chile can be found here.
